Chili peppers (also chile, chile pepper, cayenne, or chili) are sorts of the berry-fruit of plants from the genus Capsicum, which are members of the nightshade Solanaceae, cultivated for pungency.
Chili pepper pods are berries. When used fresh, they're most frequently prepared and eaten as a sort of a vegetable. Chile peppers can also be preserved by bringing, immersing the pods in oil, or pickling.
